Keep It Simple

The Utility Industry Achievement Awards, sponsored by some of the world’s leading companies, are designed to recognise achievement across Britain’s utility industry.

The awards bring together the electricity, gas and water industries together to reward the very best business practice in the last year. The judges, key independent industry experts, will be looking for evidence of genuine excellence, both measurable and memorable. Please provide dates, facts and figures where appropriate to support your entry.

We want:

  • Approximately 1,000 words in total giving concise details under the following headings:
    • How did you identify your project?
    • After identifying business benefits, what methods of implementation were considered, what route was chosen and why?
    • What was the scope and influence of the project?
    • What was the measure of success?
    • What competitive advantage has it given you?
    • What was the business benefit?
    • What was the customer/employee benefit?
  • Ensure you include detail, be specific, give clear examples where possible
  • Include evidence where possible to support your entry such as photographs, marketing material, web pages and financial results
  • Keep it short. The judges do not want to read through masses of irrelevant information to find out what you have achieved. Remember it’s the quality of the achievement that will impress the judges not the size and weight of the entry!

Each category will be judged by a panel of independent judges. A shortlist will be published in
Utility Week on 3 October 2008. All entrants will be informed by post whether they have been short-listed or not.

  • Read carefully the description of the category.
  • Read the top tips of what the judges are looking for.
  • Explain in no more than 1,000 words why you deserve the Award: what you set out to do and what has been achieved.
  • Provide supporting evidence.
  • Complete an entry form using a new form for each category. Photocopies are acceptable.
  • Send three copies of your entry to Sharon Webb, Utility Industry Achievement Awards desk, 10th Floor, Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey, SM2 5AS. The completed forms and entry must reach Utility Week by 19th September 2008.
  • Any questions please contact: Sharon Webb on Tel 020 8652 8036 or sharon.webb@rbi.co.uk
  • Good luck!
